Welcome to the Department of Surgery at the Ohio State University Medical Center. Established in 1914, the department has a long and respected tradition of excellence in clinical care, research, and education. The department is composed of eight surgical specialty divisions:

  • Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Critical Care, Trauma, and Burn
  • General and Gastrointestinal Surgery
  • Pediatric Surgery
  • Plastic Surgery
  • Surgical Oncology
  • Transplantation
  • Vascular Diseases and Surgery

In addition, the Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery, a multidisciplinary organization within the department, is dedicated to developing and implementing laparoscopic surgical technologies and procedures. Other centers are the Burn Center, the Center for Bariatric Surgery, and the Center for Wound Healing.

The mission of the Department of Surgery is consistent with that of the Ohio State University College of Medicine. Our mission includes the delivery of high-quality patient care, the contribution to innovations in medicine through translational research and clinical outcomes studies, and the education of medical students and postgraduate trainees.
