OSU Medical Center Doctor Receives Prestigious AwardCOLUMBUS, Ohio — Dr. E. Antonio Chiocca, chair of neurosurgery at The Ohio State University Medical Center, is the recipient of the 2008 Farber Award for his work in brain tumor research.
The researcher or clinician is nominated by colleagues and selected based on exhibited outstanding dedication and advanced progress in the field of neuro-oncology. Chiocca came to Ohio State from Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in 2004 to chair the newly created department of neurological surgery, hold the Dardinger Family Endowed Chair in Oncological Neurosurgery and co-direct the Esther Dardinger Neuro-Oncology Center. He has been a leading investigator in the use of biologic therapies and gene delivery methods to treat brain tumors and other central nervous system disorders. Chiocca also has attracted other neurosurgeons and brain tumor specialists to OSU Medical Center and the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, substantially increasing the size and expertise within the neurosciences through a number of high-profile recruits. Chiocca will be recognized at the AANS meeting in April.
