Ways to Give


The Department of Surgery’s missions are the delivery of high-quality patient care, the contribution to innovations in medicine through basic and translational research and clinical outcome studies, and the education of medical students and postgraduate trainees to insure an adequate supply of surgeons for the future.

Numerous funds have been established by generous donors. These contribute significantly to the Ohio State Department of Surgery’s ability to advance its mission and vision. Please consider one of these existing funds, or if you prefer to establish your own Endowment Fund or Development Fund, there are several possibilities.
 

General and Gastrointestinal Surgery

  • Fund # 305106 - GI surgical Research. A fund to support the gastrointestinal (GI) research efforts in Division of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery.

Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery

  • Fund # 301783 - Supports Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery (CMIS) for clinical trials, education/ training, and research.
     
  • Fund # 310270 - Supports the set-up and maintenance of the CMIS Research Lab of Dr. Chandan Sen.
     
  • Fund # 310841 - Supports education, training & research missions of the OSU Bariatric Surgery Program.
     
  • Fund # 311497 - Supports annual fellowships in the Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery for fellow(s) selected and trained at OSU.
     
  • Fund # 311722 – Supports Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery (CMIS) training programs including CME or non-CME courses for post-graduates, fellows, residents, medical students and/or allied healthcare professionals.
     
  • Fund # 312692 - Supports education and training of medical professionals and allied health professionals on use of robotics in surgery.
     
  • Fund # 312785 - Supports clinical and basic science research in field of diabetic wound healing in the Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery (CMIS) lab of Dr. Sashwati Roy.

Edwin H. and E. Christopher Ellison Endowment Fund

The Edwin H. and E. Christopher Ellison Endowment Fund was established to honor the accomplishments of the late Dr. Edwin H. Ellison and of his son, Dr. E. Christopher Ellison, for the significant impact that both have made on the field of general surgery at The Ohio State University.

Dr. Edwin Ellison (1918-1970) completed his undergraduate, graduate and medical degrees at Ohio State. After serving in the Army Medical Corps he returned to Ohio State in 1949. Working with chairman Dr. Robert M. Zollinger he co-identified the Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome in 1955. In 1957 he was promoted to professor of surgery and was named "Man of the Year" by medical students for his suberb teaching. Dr. Ellison authored more than 130 scientific publication, and later became chair of the Division of Surgery at Marquette University.

Dr. E. Christopher Ellison joined the faculty of the Department of Surgery in 1984 following the completion of his general surgery residency at Ohio State. For nearly three decades he has shared his knowledge, experience and insight with colleagues and students, and has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and co-authored two books, the 9th Edition of Zollinger's Atlas of Surgical Operations and The Coming Shortage of Surgeons. Dr. Ellison was appointed chairman of the Department of Surgery in 2000 and also serves as vice dean for Clinical Affairs and CEO of the Faculty Group Practice. He was named as a College of Medicine Distinguished Professor and holds the Robert M. Zollinger Chair in Surgery.

  • Fund # 641896 - This fund shall provide support for ongoing needs, program enhancements, special initiatives and to foster innovation. Allocations will be directed by the chair of Surgery in consultation with the dean of the College of Medicine.
