Ohio State Awarded a caBig Knowledge Center ContractCOLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center has been awarded one of six Knowledge Center contracts issued by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The award also includes the University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory.
The Knowledge Centers are part of NCI’s Cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid (caBIG™) program, an information network that provides cancer researchers, physicians and other participants with the ability to share basic-science, clinical-trials, imaging and other research data and analyses. More than 50 NCI-designated cancer centers and other institutions nationally and in Great Britain are committed to the project. Ohio State was designated as the Knowledge Center for caGrid, the underlying caBIG software infrastructure that connects tools and data sources within and across organizations in the caBIG network. Ohio State is the lead developer for caGrid. The caGrid Knowledge Center provides expertise and serves as a resource on the caGrid infrastructure for the caBIG community, including assisting with community projects to ensure the effective application of caGrid. Ohio State’s caGrid Knowledge Center aids individuals and groups who need help sharing applications or data on caGrid, who are modifying caGrid applications or who are adding new features to caGrid. The University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory have extensive experience developing the Globus Toolkit, an integral piece of software used in caGrid.
