The Division of Plastic Surgery at The Ohio State University Medical Center is dedicated to restoring wholeness to people who suffer from physical deformities, through integrated programs in patient care, education, and research in the field of plastic surgery. Ohio State’s plastic surgeons have expertise in wound care, facial trauma, burn, and oncologic reconstructive surgery, particularly breast reconstruction. At Nationwide Children’s Hospital, the division conducts two major multidisciplinary clinical programs: the Craniofacial Clinic and the Vascular Malformations Clinic, which serve as centers for patient care, as well as clinical and basic translational research. New clinical methods recently introduced at Ohio State include cancer-related reconstructive surgery, particularly in the area of breast reconstruction. Microsurgical breast reconstruction, including state-of-the-art techniques using perforator flaps, have been performed for the first time at Ohio State's Medical Center and represent a unique service within the region. Enhanced microvascular surgery services have resulted in more comprehensive care for trauma patients, particularly those with lower extremity trauma. |
