One of the largest organ transplant programs in the nation, the OSU Comprehensive Transplant Center (CTC) performs nearly 400 kidney, liver, pancreas, combined kidney/pancreas, lung, heart, and bone marrow transplants each year. Collaboration among specialists benefits patients by increasing the potential for new discoveries that will improve patient care. In 2006, Ohio State became the first academic medical center in the state to perform a combined heart-lung transplant. The CTC is a pioneer in making transplant research discoveries that become life-saving treatments for our patients. For example, the CTC recently was approved by the FDA to conduct clinical trials of islet cell transplants, a revolutionary therapy which may offer hope of a cure for Type I diabetes patients. |
