Miller, President-Elect of American Burn AssociationCOLUMBUS, Ohio – Dr. Sidney Miller, director of the Ohio State University Medical Center’s Burn Center, was elected president-elect of the American Burn Association at the organization’s annual meeting held recently. Miller will assume the presidency in 2010.
Miller’s current responsibilities as vice president of the 3,500-member association include promoting and supporting burn-related research, patient care, education, rehabilitation and prevention, with an overall focus of improving the quality of care provided to burn patients through advocacy initiatives. In addition, Miller serves on the board of trustees of the American Burn Association and is chair of its National Burn Repository Committee, which manages the association’s database, storing information for over 190,000 burn patients. He serves on the International Relations Committee of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma and is an ex-officio member of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma’s Disaster Management Committee. Miller also sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Burn Care and Rehabilitation and the Journal of Burns. He has been involved in numerous burn-related research studies and is a frequent invited speaker on topics related to the care of burn patients. The burn center at Ohio State’s Medical Center is the only adult burn treatment center in central Ohio, verified by the joint American Burn Association and American College of Surgeon Committee on Trauma, that provides inpatient and outpatient care for burn wounds, complex burn management and serious skin conditions. Also part of the Medical Center’s Level 1 Trauma Center, the burn center offers physical and occupational therapy, speech language therapy, social work and nutritional services.
