The Division of Vascular Diseases and Surgery offers a comprehensive program in routine and complex vascular surgical reconstructions using both open and endovascular reconstruction. General surgery residents are assigned during junior and senior years to this busy service and become competent in management of patients with vascular disease and their appropriate therapies. An accredited two-year fellowship is available to candidates who have completed the requirements for certification in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery. Diagnostic angiography and endovascular therapeutic techniques are emphasized during the first year of fellowship, as are clinical research projects. During the second year, fellows acquire extensive experience of open procedures and advanced endovascular procedures. The fellowship also offers extensive experience in noninvasive laboratory techniques and encourages active participation by the fellow in the noninvasive vascular lab, not only in interpretation, but also in performance of procedures. The operative experience covers the full range of peripheral vascular surgery, including:
This program provides an above-average number of operative cases. Conferences include morbidity and mortality, basic science, and clinical care issues. Our goal is to produce a fully-trained individual who can operate independently and meet all competencies.
